Valentine’s Day is such a great opportunity to teach our kids about kindness, caring for others, mindfulness and of course, love. When I think of Valentine’s Day I like to consider it an extension of Thanksgiving and being thankful or grateful to those who choose to love us. So, when I talk to my boys about Valentine’s Day, that is the approach I take. Be sure to follow all the Sweet & Sticky details on Instagram!
14+ Valentine’s Day Activities for Kids & Toddlers
I’ve compiled a great list of MORE than 14 great activities you can do with kids or even toddlers that are fun and easy. But, more importantly, these activities open the door to conversations you can have with your kids about what love means. Some are purely just for fun and you’ll have to work you conversation in, but others are really meaningful, as you’ll see.
How to Make Chocolate Play-Dough
Chocolate Play-Dough is a great way to sit down with your child and start a conversation about anything.
Heart Pies the Kids can Make
My boys absolutely love baking in the kitchen. When we bake these heart pies we talk about the ingredients and pretend each one stands for something special that we’re “filling our Hearts with” and then baking it all together into the goodness of our heart.
Heart Stamping with Pudding Paint
Toddlers want to talk about love too and hand stamping Valentine’s is a great way to do that. This post includes a recipe for Taste-Safe Pudding Paint too!
All the People I LOVE Discovery Box
This Discovery Box is still one of my all-time favorites and it is still hanging in our house 2 years later! This works on facial recognition of family members!
Inexpensive Ways to make your Toddler Feel Loved – Kingdom Mama
I am such a fan of this post and how Sara makes her little ones feel loved. Valentine’s Day does not have to be expensive to be a great experience for everyone!
3 Games to play on a Valentine’s Day Coffee Date with your Toddler – Kingdom Mama {Free Printable!}
Another great idea from Sara is to take your little one out on a special coffee {or cocoa} date and do some one-on-one activities. You can even use up some of your Valentine’s day candy with her FREE Printable.
Homemade Valentine Gumdrops– Thrifty Jinxy
More kitchen fun from Chrysa at Thrifty Jinxy. The kitchen really is where all the family time happens in our house and kids do love to get messy! These homemade gumdrops are only 4 ingredients and then kids can help.
Huggable Valentine Card– Ottawa Mommy Club
I love the idea of sending a big hug through the mail. If you have family who live far away this is the perfect activity to talk about them, but also include them in your Valentine’s Day fun. Plus, which kid doesn’t like giving or getting mail?!
Make your own Crystal Hearts– Ottawa Mommy Club
I confess, as soon as I saw this activity I had to do it myself. Cash is such a huge Science fan. He absolutely loved making crystals in the shape of hearts and then discussing ways to solve our buoyancy issues. Any activity that gives your child a chance to talk about something they’re passionate about is a great one in my opinion!
Valentine’s Paper Heart Frame – Momma Young at Home
Getting crafty might be your specialty, or better yet, it might be a fun thing for your kids to do! I know Wyatt loves it when I bring out the scissors. He’s game to cut up anything. #finemotorskills I love how this activity creates a decoration that you can admire year after year.
Sharpie Dot Heart Coffee Cups – Organized 31
I’m a fan of my seasonal coffee cups, I must admit. This activity from Susan is perfect for little hands and is pretty much fail-safe on the crafty factor. They’ll love watching mom or dad {or anyone} drinking out of their new gift in the morning! Conversation starter: What fills your cup with love?
Easy Valentine’s Traditions for Kids – Highlights Along the Way
Now this one from Kate melts my heart a little bit and it is so simple! But, it gets right down to the ultimate point about why we celebrate Valentine’s Day.
14 Valentine’s Activities for Babies, Toddlers & Preschoolers– Fueling Mamahood
My girl Lindsey has quite a few fun things to share with you on her blog. She is a fellow former teacher, so she and I get along swell! She’s written a whole post about the activities she has done with her twin girls. There is certainly something you’ll find over there that you’ll just have to do right away!
