So, you’ve told the kids about your Disneyland Vacation, now you need to get there. In this post, I’m providing a little Airport Guide for flying to Disneyland. I’m also sharing a few of my affiliates who offer deals discounts at the bottom. 😉 As you can guess, there are numerous airports in the LA area and around Disneyland, but yes, I have my favorite. Depending on the airline you choose you may find one too!
When to fly to Disneyland
February! We’ve flown to Disneyland a few times now with the boys are different ages. We always go to Disneyland in February. Mainly because the weather in Oregon is cold and miserable, but also because it is a low month for Disneyland capacity. February in California is considered the “rainy season” so the park population is predictably low.
Flying to Disneyland | The Best California Airports
Knowing Southern California is a big factor when WE choose our Airport. Billy is not a fan of traffic {who is?} so we avoid it as much as possible. Our favorite airport is listed below as first place, but I’m covering a few other choices too.
John Wayne Orange County Airport | SNA

Orange County’s John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana is our family favorite for Disneyland travel. It’s literally 15 miles from Disneyland’s entrance, and 20 minutes {estimated with traffic} to any neighboring hotel.
Thanks to it being a smaller airport, you don’t have to walk very far to get outside, or especially to baggage claim. Our checked bags have always been on a carousel within 5-10 minutes of us getting to baggage claim. Our most recent trip, OURS WERE THE FIRST out! That’s never happened to me before.
Fun Fact: The oversized luggage {car seats} pick up location is very close by and easy to find. Our car seats have come out promptly and in great shape!

Many main airlines fly into John Wayne including Alaska, Delta Southwest, and United. You can also find a few flights from American, Frontier, JetSuiteX, and WestJet.

Long Beach International Airport | LGB
Long Beach is an airport we’ve investigated for flights, but because Billy has an Alaskan Air Miles Credit Card, we’ve never flown in here. LGB is just a little bit further away than SNA at 23 miles away from Disneyland. We don’t fly through there because it does not service Alaskan Airlines. Long Beach is a JetBlue hub, but other airlines flying into LBG include American, Delta, and Hawaiian. I’m still putting it on my list in case you’re using one of those airlines.
LGB is even smaller than SNA, so you can expect short lines and a very quick baggage claim.

Los Angeles International | LAX
I say avoid this airport at all costs… Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is one of the largest airports in the United States. So, here is the thing, it has the most flight choices from most destinations. You’re going to find a LOT of flights at a variety of prices. And that might be what you and your family need. Since it is a large *competitive* destination, you’ll probably catch a great deal or discount from an airline. If you’re traveling with a big family or group, that maybe your #momwinning right there. You’ll have to shop for tickets and compare savings to convenience and location to Disneyland.
LAX is incredibly inefficient due to its size. The logistics of baggage claim and getting across the airport to your rental cars or shuttles should be factored into your schedule at a grander scale. Maybe add an hour even. At about 33.3 miles from Disneyland, plan to drive at least an hour from the airport to your hotel. Or, plan for your flight to arrive at a low traffic time. Just about every major airline fly into LAX, so your point cards should get you something!
