This DIY Palm Tree Decoration tutorial comes from the Safari Birthday Party that we had for Cash when he turned six. It may be the easiest DIY Tutorial yet! You only need a few things from Dollar Tree and the rest is probably laying around your house.
Mini Palm Tree Decoration
If you’re hosting a Safari, Jungle or Luau themed event these little beauties are so simple to make and fill up space quickly. Plus, they’re really lightweight and easy to move around.

What you Need
- Cardboard Tubing
- Burlap Ribbon
- Masking Tape
- Palm Frons
I used a variety of cardboard tubing that was leftover from wrapping paper rolls, paper towel rolls and of course, toilet paper rolls. #upcycled Once you have your main trunks it comes down to covering them up.
You can use a few different things from ribbon to brown construction paper and then this burlap roll I bought at Dollar Tree. I also bought the palm frons there too!

Instructions
Start your Palm Tree Decoration by taping the end of your burlap ribbon at the bottom. Wrap up the cardboard tube and back down for double coverage. The burlap comes apart a bit and I used the loose strings to tie it off so there was no tape on the outside.
Once your cardboard tubing is wrapped you can bend and insert your palm frons. I only used 2 per tree, making my Palm Tree Decorations less than $3 each. For the smaller trees, I only used one palm fron.
Make as many as you can or want to with your supplies and then sprinkle them around your Safari Party or VBS Camp! Checkout Cash’s 6th Birthday Party Trading Post Station to see them in action!

Hello Kandice!
I loved the tutorial! the arrangement was beautiful! Green makes all the difference in decor! Do you think I can use the Styrofoam glue instead of the adhesive tape?
Hi there! I’m sure you can! Especially if you have enough time before your party for it to dry. That might also be the answer anyway if you’re making really big trees 🙂
