How to Make Chocolate Play-dough

How to make Chocolate Play-Dough. Chocolate Playdough Recipe. Valentines Sensory Play. Easter Basket Gift Idea. DIY Easter. Sensory PlayThere are all sorts of reasons you might need a Chocolate Play-dough recipe in your Mom Files. Play-dough itself is a super fun thing to play with and there are endless activities you can do with your Toddler. Today I’m sharing with you this easy peasy Chocolate Play-dough recipe because we are using it to learn about Teeth-Brushing! I know, sounds interesting right? You can check out that post soon enough! Let’s get to it….

Chocolate Play-Dough Recipe

What you need:

  • 2 Cups Boiling Water
  • 1 1/2 Cup Flour
  • 1 Cup Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Hershey Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Cream of Tartar
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
  • Wax paper

Directions:

Boil your 2 Cups of water and then mix in your smallest portions first. So, work up the Ingredient List backward. I started doing it this way because if you start with the big ingredients first, it becomes difficult to mix in the smaller portions once the dough starts forming.

Once you have a clump, spoon it all out onto a piece of wax paper and separate it into smaller balls to cool. Once it becomes cool enough to handle start kneading it to further mix the ingredients but also to make it smooth.

Kids can help knead too!

Let the fun begin!

You can use Chocolate Play-dough for pretend play, Valentine’s gifts, Easter Baskets or even just for fun. I used it in my Lesson Plan for Teaching Toddlers to brush their teeth. I am a big fan of taste safe Sensory Play materials and although you probably shouldn’t eat it, all of the ingredients are edible. Let your Toddlers experience all of their senses, including a fantastic smell!
