This Safari Birthday Game was our big finale for Cash’s 6th Birthday Party. We combined a little Indiana Jones with the Easter Egg Hunt theory. My brother Nick always puts forth every effort to make sure his nephews have the BEST time at their birthday parties. This is the game we scheduled for him. His Mad Scientist performance at Cash’s 5th Element Birthday Party last year was hard to top so we made this year’s role a little smaller on purpose. Enter, The Elusive Leopard Print Torch…
The Elusive Leopard Print Torch
The Elusive Leopard Print Torch is the Jungle’s most treasured relic in that it is the only device that possesses the proper powers to light the birthday cake candles… That’s the story I told anyway… in my best Disneyland Jungle Cruise Guide voice. I then showed my captive audience of hungry party attendance these rare photos of the Torch caught out in the jungle wilderness.

The Safari Birthday Game
After I set this elaborate stage for the Torch and how it would light our way to delicious cupcakes. I tell them it was up to them to find it. This then became the actual Safari Birthday Game, a scavenger hunt.

Now here is what I used to make this game happen… A TON of easter eggs, or Coconuts #Safariparty and an Elephant Puzzle. I forgot to mention that the Mighty Elephant is the Torch’s Entrusted Protector. Only she can tell you to whom it’s been entrusted for safekeeping #UncleNick
Did I also forget to mention that we like to be super dramatic over here? Moving on…
What you need
To put all the pieces {pun intended} of this game together you need a few things:
- A Leopard Print Torch
- A Puzzle
- Coconuts
- An Entrusted Protector {Uncles work the best}
On the back of the built puzzle, I wrote a secret message. The one from the Elephant about who has been entrusted to protect the Torch. Then broke it apart. Make sure you have enough coconuts for each kid to find one or two and then put the pieces inside the coconuts. Like an Easter Egg. We had 12 kids at this party so they each got to find two coconuts.

Playing the Game
Before the party started Billy went and hid all these puzzle piece-filled coconuts around our property. We made sure to notice if any kids got to close to one after the party started and told them to leave it alone until the last game.
We get to the end of the Party, after all the Trading Post Station action and it’s time to cut the cake. That’s when I gather everyone into a circle for my elaborate story about the Torch, the Elephant, Entrusted Protector, etc. Then I tell all of these captivated kids that the Mighty Elephant has hidden clues to whom the Entrusted Protector is around the party in coconuts. Their mission is to each run and retrieves ONE coconut then return it to the table.
Finding Coconuts
Cue the most second-most adorable frantic, jail-break like reaction ever… the most adorable in next. Knowing I had a few older girls at the party {who can read} I had them all come back to the GLASS table. {very crucial} Then the kids started building the puzzle as a team. They instantly notice they don’t have all the pieces. So they must all run out and find their second coconut. *Harder round* and return to finish building.

Building the Puzzle
Once the second round of coconuts were found and the puzzle was built, I had those older girls crawl under the table. They read the message about who has the Torch out loud. UNCLE NICK! Cue the MOST adorable moment of the party. By that time Nick had positioned himself out in the yard for an epic scene of 12 kids chasing him. All in an effort to tackle the Torch away. #GoNick

I don’t remember who finally got it from him but the kids were all very excited when it happened. Once it was found, we used it to light the candles, sing and sign off on another Wild Birthday Party.
