The Selfie Sentences are back! But, I’ve added a little holiday twist. We have just had our last week of school and the sugar is still coursing through their little veins from all the partying. I am desperately trying to find something that keeps their little bodies busy while I frantically get my holiday to-do list in order. With only a few days left I just need them to be out of my way, entertained and preferably not watching tv… “but Mom, all we want is screen time! Fair enough, let’s practice our selfie skills with a selfie sentence scavenger hunt!
Selfie Sentences
Selfie Sentences are basically sight words in the background of a selfie that you’ve taken in order to form a sentence. This is a game I usually play with the boys in the summer to keep them busy and *reading* in different ways. The boys love to take pictures and they LOVE to have control of my phone.

Typically we tape up flashcards but for this Holiday version, I just made my own. Cash has been working on the ‘ee’ sound so I included those. I also wanted to work on the difference between ‘The’ and ‘the’ with Wyatt.

How To Make a Sight Word Scavenger Hunt
- Cut word cards apart on the dotted lines and tape around your house.
- Cut sentences apart in strips to pull from a jar
- Give the kids a camera and practice their selfie skills
- Selfie Sentences must be completed in picture order to win

Selfie Sentence Rules
I tell the boys they earn a small Gig Pay for completing a Selfie sentence in order. My rules are:
- Both boys and the word have to be in the picture
- The pictures must be taken in sentence order
- The phone control changes every other word, or no boy takes two pictures in a row.
- They are limited to 2 Sentences per day for Gig Pay but can make up their own or keep going for *free* if they want to.
Holiday Break Teamwork
I don’t know about you, but my kids seem to be fighting constantly this time of year. It might be because Christmas is so close or it’s just their age. But, I wanted to do an activity that made them work together for a common goal. Plus, they’re practicing their sight words which are an added bonus.
How are you handling the Holiday Break?
