Okay, here we go with yet another Birthday Party of “Punny” Food Names! The Floor is Lava Party Food was no exception to my favorite quirky party planning step. Although I admit, the display is much smaller. You can use these Lava Party Food Ideas for any party, even Luau or Dinosaur Themes. I kept it that way for diversity.
Lava Party Food Ideas
Let’s be honest, this year we had to limit our shared food at parties quite a bit. I had to focus on packaged food and even be the food distributor myself to avoid a lot of communal touching of the display. Still, that gave us a fun setup to work with. Since this Party was themed around a game show, I went with “Levels” for our food distribution and made them part of the game. You’ll see what I mean in a minute…
Level Up Lava Bar
The How to Play The Floor is Lava Blog Post will better explain the scoring system, but the main idea is: Kids go through the obstacle course and “Level Up” which sends them here, to the food.
Level 2: Gatorades
Their first time through the Obstacle Course leveled the kids up to Level 2, Gatorades. Of course, bought in red for the lava theme. I also lined them with the All-Star Team Member Printables. You can use Avery Mailing Address Labels to print the kids’ names and then label your own mini Gatorades.
At the very beginning of the party, I brought kids here, to the Level Up Table, and explained the levels to them. Once they understood, I gave them a red headband {which you can see them all wearing} and sent them off into the garage where the fun began! Each Team Member went through once, helping us to level up and come back to the table.
Level 2 offered quick rehydration and they were back in the game! The bonus was we knew who each bottle belonged to with their name tags on them.
Level 3: Volcano Snack Packs
I found these awesome little Volcano Treat Boxes on Amazon and had to use them. Knowing our party would serve a lot of sugar throughout the Obstacle Course, these were a necessary protein snack level. I filled the treat boxes with packaged nuts, crackers, and fruit snacks. A little power boost between the sugars. Especially since Level 4 was a sugar burst!
Level 4: Liquid Lava Bar
After the huge success of our Halloween Potions Bar, we kept the station alive and reused it for Wyatt’s Party. I just changed the potions into Volcano Themes! You can download the Lava Bar Menu on Etsy, along with the Level Up signs and All-Star Gatorade Labels.
The idea is an Italian Soda Bar with mixed syrups to make special themed drinks. I bought Syrups on Amazon along with the pumps. You can find those here on Amazon:

You just want to make sure your pumps fit the proper mL Bottles.
Any combination that used the Lavender & Rose together is always my favorite. For this party that is the “Vesuvius” drink on the menu for the Volcano in Italy.
Level 5: Wyatt’s Pizza Kitchen Cookie
If you have seen the show, The Floor is Lava, you’ll remember that one of the Obstacle Courses is themed after a Pizza Kitchen. We opted to go with volcanos for the course, so the Pizza Kitchen theme became level 5. Normally I would have made this a whole station where kids could decorate their cookies at a table. But, keeping our distance and all I went with the individual boxes. Which, in my opinion, turned out way cuter.
I got these little pizza boxes on Amazon and they were the perfect size for a sugar cookie. You can mix your own frosting to be red and frost the cookies beforehand, which I recommend. I also but the “cheese” sprinkles on all of them for the kids too. Using some scrapbook paper that I liked the look of our pizza cookies were ready for delivery!
However, that was all we wanted to do. They had to have toppings! Billy got the lucky job of cutting up the Mike & Ikes to look like pepperoni, pineapples, and green peppers. We tossed in some skittles to be tomatoes and black sprinkle dots for olives. These little ramekin cups from Amazon fit inside the boxes with a little squish but kept everything organized.
Level 6: Lava Cupcakes
The final and most exciting level to get to, the CAKE!
This little detail might be my favorite of the whole party. It was also ENTIRELY Wyatt’s idea! So that makes my Party Planner, Mama Heart happy. He told me he wanted to take pictures of himself walking on a Lava Floor, so that’s exactly what we did!
Wyatt posed in front of the garage door in his Party outfit, using his best Floor is Lava ideas. I uploaded the pictures to a photo editing website called Canva, which I use daily for the blog. In Canva you can remove the background, leaving the image of him as a stand-alone with a white background.
I printed all of the poses on 8×10 photo paper then cut them out. After gluing to some cake pop sticks we were good to go! Order your cupcake with orange “lava” icing and you’ve got the cutest cupcake toppers ever! Plus, Wyatt really loved seeing his idea front and center on the Party day!
