If you’re looking for an adorable theme for your baby’s First Birthday party, you’ve found it! The Wild One theme is so versatile and ever so true! We all know how crazy that first year with a newborn is and this theme can cover how you feel about the little bundle of joy or even the year in general.
Wild One First Birthday Party
The theme essentially showcases your baby’s personality and how he or she is totally awesome and even a little unpredictable. Most parents tend to lean towards the outdoorsy decorations and utilize the animal motifs to pull it all together. Some options include the ever popular deer and antlers. woodland animals with foxes and owls or even a little free spirit with the Aztec style.
Black & White Theme
For this party we went super simple and kept is black & white. This whole party was built and designed by my own Etsy Shop, The Vintage Event, and I’ll be linking you through to each piece so that you too can throw together the perfect theme!
How to Set it Up
Whenever you’re setting up a party with a theme, I rely heavily on a focal point display. {In real life I plan parties for my own company, Green-Eyed Girl Productions} I always go for a 6′ table dessert display when planning birthday parties because it is truly where everyone wants to look. With little kids, it’s all about the desserts and little touches that tie a theme together.
The Back Wall
Place your table against a wall. I love to create backdrops for my parties that pull the whole display up and make it bigger! For this Wild One party, we made the backdrop with three key banners that were essential. The top is our main focal banner which is the 11″ tall glitter letters spelling, WILD ONE. It establishes our theme to party guests from the very beginning.
Next, we made a classic, flag name banner in black and white. Who doesn’t love their name made in a banner? This banner listing is available in 70 different colors!
Finally, we got super cute and crafty with our sewn, Boho Arrow Banner that kicks our Wild One theme up a little by making it look a little tribal. The view of this banner tells your party guest it’s about to get even cuter as they approach the table!
What is the first thing you notice at a birthday party? The Dessert! Whenever there is a First Birthday Party I highly recommend a small presentation cake, maybe only a 6″ diameter for the little Wild One to smash in front of everyone. You then provide cupcakes for everyone else.
For this display I built is up with crates and cake plates to elevate everything as well as tie in the brown color with the craft paper boho banner and then the Deer Cupcake Toppers.
All the Details
My favorite part about throwing a party is planning all the tiny details that pull it all together. Now that you know how to set up your back wall, let’s cover the table surface.
Step 1: Get all those food items up off the table. Make them just under eye-level so that guests don’t have to bend down to get them.
Step 2: Sprinkle your Wild One theme everywhere! Start high and work your way down. The tallest piece of the table should be your presentation cake’s, Cake Topper.
Cake Topper: For this party, I did a black glitter Little Buck Cake Topper, but I also took pictures of the Black Glitter Antlers Cake Topper. I decided I liked the Little Buck Cake Topper Best. You can shop All Cake Toppers HERE.
Cupcake Toppers: This is where it gets fun! With the cupcakes, there are no limits. You can mix colors and flavors and still make it look amazing. Here we used an assortment of sizes and colors. What you see the most of are our Deer Antler Heads in White, but we also did Antler Cupcake Toppers in black glitter to match the Cake Topper. Next, we have the bigger, Stag Cupcake Toppers in Craft and Stag Cupcake Toppers in Black Glitter.
Confetti: Finally, to cover the very last surface of the actual table we used confetti. {my favorite!} Continuing in Wild One and a little tribal flare we tossed out White Feather Confetti and Black Arrow Confetti. I love how the feathers pop off the black table runner and the arrow pop off the white cake plates! Then the easiest way to jazz up your table is with Sprinkle Confetti in your coordinating colors. Sprinkle some around the presentation cake and your Wild One theme is complete!
