On the long list of things to do before you go to Disneyland, I highly recommend writing a few Disney Character Letters. It is easy, fun and exciting as well as educational for your kids. Our boys got their Disneyland trip as a Christmas gift, so we actually spent December writing a LOT of letters, which started with a letter to Santa. I quickly transitioned the letter-writing process into, “Hey! why don’t we write some Disney Character Letters too!?”

We tackled our Disneyland Vacation announcement way early in December so the boys knew they were getting it as their big Christmas gift. With that, we had loads of time to cram in a bunch of Disney movies and reintroduce ourselves to characters.

I asked the boys to name as many Disney Characters as they could and we built a list. On that list, we eliminated any Characters who wouldn’t “check their mail” which included ALL the 101 Dalmations, Hei Hei, Max from Tangled. All great Disney Characters, but we tried to stick with the main ones and who we might see walking around the park. From there we brainstormed what to say in a letter.

My boys were 4 and 6 at the time, the perfect age to work on how to write an actual letter and mail it. There are more steps than we as adults care to admit. From addressing a letter and closing it to doing the same on an envelope. Not only did I want the boys to write the letters and get autographs in return, but we got a TON of quality Toddler School mileage out of this activity. Looking at their first letters, and their last, their penmanship, structure, straight lines and sentences are drastically improved!

Now that I’ve said my piece about the academic benefits of letter writing, let’s affirm how much fun it is… I wrote out a sample letter for the boys to copy including a [Dear,___] line. {You can download it in my bundle below!} As well as a few sentences and a closing. Cash wanted his letters to be different so we used a whiteboard for him. Of course, we had to buy a special Disney Stationary too! I even ordered red envelopes on Amazon.

Disney really knows how to turn people into excited fans. They’ve set up a system where if you mail a letter to their communications department they will mail you an autographed picture in return. Though it may take up to 6 weeks. We mail all of our letters to:

Walt Disney Communications

PO Box 10040

Lake Buena Vist, FL 32830-0040

I created a Mailing Label list that you can download at the bottom. You’ll need Avery Labels to print them. Once they’re printed you’ll know which Disney Character Letters you’ve already mailed off.

Return Address Labels

I also created a sheet of return address labels with each boy’s name so that Disney would know how to spell it and who to send the autograph to. As opposed to having them handwrite their own return address.

Mail your own!

The boys then drew pictures on the backs of their letters and loved licking the envelopes. They also loved putting their own stamps on and sending them off in the mail. Write your own letters or download my Character Letter Bundle with the Letter Template and Address Label List:

And don’t forget to grab these adorable Disney Pajamas!
