Who Done It is the question on all our minds when it comes to creating Cash’s perfect Hogwarts Mystery Birthday Party. He wanted an Escape Room feel with a Hogwarts Adventure. PERFECT! I thought since we don’t have anything for you to actually “escape” out of. It took me 3 months to write it and design it to have alternate endings.
So here it is and thank you for joining me in this wonderful world of Wizardry Mystery! This Birthday Party “Escape Room” or Who Done It Mystery revolves around finding the Mystical Wand of Fire. It is the only wand that can light a birthday candle and it has been sent to the wrong person.

A Who Done It Wizard Mystery
Wizards unite to solve the clues and reveal who in fact has the Mystical Wand of Fire (torch lighter) so the candle can be lit, and Happy Birthday can be sung!
This Mystery requires a lot of pieces, all of which you can find in my Amazon List for this party. You can also scale it back and do your own DIY.

Alternate Endings
The final clue, Clue 10 you can alter and arrange to be any 1 of 18 people. I have included 6 FREE bonus pages of images that you can print off and frame for a suspect wall. These images are pulled from the internet, not my credit, I’ve just sized them to be 5″x7″ for framing. They are a FREE Add-on. You can also pull all your own images.

How to set it up
You can navigate the setup of this party through my blog posts starting here: MAIN POST: How to throw an Epic Harry Potter Birthday Party
Or scroll to the bottom and click through how to set up each individual clue.
I do all our parties with an all-inclusive teamwork theme. I don’t like to divide up kids at a birthday party and create that winners/loser dynamic. Everyone wins here by working together.

I’ve also divided it up into a “Color Print” and “B&W Print” if you want to send it to a printer. Keep one original mass print (I printed the full file as 9 pages per sheet to keep on my clipboard) so you know how the order runs.
The Top sections of directions are meant for your/host’s eyes only. You can cut each section apart and staple it together like a booklet so you can keep track. I’ve also included little supply lists that link directly to the products I’ve used. Individual clue needs are in their own blog posts as well. You do not have to do all the clues either, you can scale back as you wish.
I strongly suggest planning out where you’re going to set each clue up on a map so that they have their own spaces and aren’t too close together.
Introductions
When the party begins, everyone meets at the sorting hat.
You can sort kids into houses, but they will still all work together.

Everyone gets a trinket bag (by their house if you want.) Inside that bag are their tools for the mystery. You’ll want to print enough for each player from the download. I designed most pages to have 2 or 3 cut-apart pieces for less printing. Each bag needs:
- Wizard Code Printout (1/3 slip)
- Mischief Manager Printout (1/2 sheet)
- Invisible Ink Pen (wand)

Read the first letter and then the players are off!
Each clue guides through to the next.
You’ll need your Wizard Code and Mischief Manager at each clue to unscramble the decoded suspect names.
Check out the Behind the Scenes Blog Post for more details on how I set everything up.
