Alright, buckle up for an adventure-filled February that’ll keep the kiddos entertained and maybe even tire them out a bit (you’re welcome). Here are ten awesome spots for family fun, all within three hours of Salem, Oregon.
1. Snow Play at Mount Hood
Head to Mount Hood, where the snow is your playground. Whether your little ones are sledding down gentle hills, strapping on snowshoes for a quiet trek, or feeling the rush on a tubing run at Ski Bowl, there’s a snowy activity for everyone. Just remember to pack the hot cocoa!

2. Oregon Coast Exploration
The Oregon Coast is calling! Bundle up for some beachcombing and see what treasures the tides have turned up. February is prime time for spotting majestic gray whales on their migration journey. Don’t forget to hit up Cape Perpetua for jaw-dropping views and trails that’ll get the kids’ imaginations running wild.
3. Silver Falls State Park
Just a short drive from Salem, Silver Falls State Park offers a winter wonderland of waterfalls. The Trail of Ten Falls is a must-see, and the winter mist adds a magical touch. It’s a perfect spot for a family hike with plenty of photo ops to capture those “Remember when…” moments.

4. Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), Portland
For those curious minds, OMSI is a treasure trove of hands-on exhibits. The planetarium will have your kiddos starry-eyed, and special workshops mean there’s always something new to explore. It’s science, but way cooler than school.
5. Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, McMinnville
Got a future pilot or astronaut on your hands? This museum is packed with incredible aircraft and space exhibits. The massive Spruce Goose is a crowd-pleaser, and the IMAX theater offers a larger-than-life experience. Plus, it’s a great place to dodge the rain.
6. The Trees of Mystery, Klamath
Venture to the Trees of Mystery in Klamath for a unique forest experience. Walk among giant redwoods and explore the SkyTrail gondola ride for breathtaking views. It’s a magical place where nature and mystery intertwine, perfect for curious explorers.

7. Ocean World, Crescent City
Dive into Ocean World in Crescent City, a must-see for marine enthusiasts. Kids can enjoy interactive exhibits, watch sea lion performances, and even touch a shark. It’s an educational and fun experience that brings the wonders of the ocean to life.
8. Gold Beach Adventures

While it’s technically a theme park, Enchanted Forest offers a quirky, fairytale vibe that’s charmingly different. Wander through Storybook Lane or take a gentle ride on the Big Timber Log Ride. It’s just around the corner from Salem and perfect for a whimsical day out.
10. Wings and Waves Waterpark, McMinnville
Beat the winter chill at this indoor water park with a twist—it’s airplane-themed! With slides that start from a real Boeing 747, it’s a splashing good time for little adventurers. Plus, there’s a wave pool and a play area just for the younger kiddos.
