Hey there, fellow adventure-seekers! It’s Kandice here, your friendly neighborhood blogger mom from A Cotton Kandi Life, and today, I’m sharing a tale of water, wonder, and a whole lot of luck. Our journey to Gullfoss Waterfall in Iceland was nothing short of magical, and let me tell you, it was my favorite waterfall from our entire Iceland trip. Spoiler alert: rainbows were caught in the act!
The Art of Planning: Timing is Everything
When it comes to Gullfoss Waterfall, timing is everything. Seriously, folks, the internet was my best friend during the planning phase of this trip. I dove deep into research to find the perfect time to visit this stunning spot. The goal? To capture the brightest and most beautiful rainbow at Gullfoss. According to my trusty online sources, the magic hour is between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. And wouldn’t you know it, they were right!
The Day of the Rainbow Hunt
On the morning of our big day, I’ll admit I was a bundle of nerves. Looking at the cloudy sky from our earlier crater excursion, I was worried that the weather might not cooperate. But, as they say, fortune favors the brave—or the moms with a plan! We hit the road, raincoats packed (a must-have for any waterfall adventure), and set our sights on Gullfoss.

Gullfoss Waterfall Lookout: A Must-Visit Spot
Let’s take a moment to talk about the Gullfoss Waterfall lookout itself. Located just 55 minutes from the parking area at Gullfoss Parking in Iceland, this natural wonder is a popular tourist attraction for a reason. The glacial river Hvita flows from the Langjokull glacier, thundering over the two-tiered falls with a combined drop of 33 meters. It then disappears into a misty gorge that’s 70 meters deep. The sight is breathtaking, and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a rainbow dancing in the mist, which is why it’s often called “Golden Falls.”

Navigating the Gullfoss Experience
When you arrive at Gullfoss, you’ll find multiple walking paths that offer different viewing angles of the falls. Trust me, you’ll want to explore them all. Just remember to wear your raincoat because, spoiler alert, it gets a bit misty! Iceland is famous for its spectacular waterfalls, each unique in its own right, but many will argue that Gullfoss takes the cake.

The Thrill of the Chase: Catching a Rainbow
Now, back to our rainbow quest. As we approached the lookout, the clouds parted, and the sun decided to make a grand appearance. Cue the mom victory dance! There it was, a dazzling rainbow arching over the falls, just as my research promised. The boys were thrilled, I was ecstatic, and yes, I have about a million pictures to prove it. This was #MomWinning at its finest, and I couldn’t be more grateful for those snapshots of pure joy.

Wrapping Up the Adventure
Our visit to Gullfoss Waterfall was a highlight of our Iceland adventure. The combination of stunning natural beauty, the thrill of timing, and the sheer joy of sharing it with my family made it an unforgettable experience. If you’re planning a trip to Iceland, put the Gullfoss Waterfall lookout at the top of your list. And remember, a little planning goes a long way, especially when you’re chasing rainbows.
Whether you’re planning your own rainbow chase or simply dreaming of Iceland’s natural beauty, I hope this post inspires a little wanderlust in your heart. Until next time, happy adventuring!
