How to Make Coffee Filter Snowflakes | DIY Christmas

As part of our Handmade Kelso Christmas this year we did several fun Coffee Filter Crafts to add color to the tree. See them all at the main post HERE. This post is about our Coffee Filter Snowflakes!

How to Make Coffee Filter Snowflakes

What you need:
Coffee Filters
Blue Super Washable Markers
Water Cup
Paintbrushes
Drying Rack {Same used for cookies}
Scissors

Step 1 | Painting

First, You or your toddler use the markers to color the filters. Then you just use water and a paintbrush to wet them. Cash was really good and giving them a good soak. See how the water makes the colors bleed together… Magic for a toddler!

Step 2 | Drying

Put them on a cookie sheet to dry and play with wrapping paper tubes while you wait {that last part is crucial to your success}

Step 3 | Cutting

Once dry you can fold them. Here’s the trick: Folds go Half, Half, THIRDS otherwise it comes out funky. I learned that on Pinterest too.

Then let the cutting begin! The Toddler part of this project is actually just the painting for now…. Cash, who can use scissors to some degree wasn’t ready for these tiny cuts. I did them. Sure, give him some scissors and let him go to town on a coffee filter if you need some confetti… He’s your guy!

These are the patterns I used {nothing special} but I loved this one the best because it turned into hearts 🙂

Open them up and enjoy your handy work!

Then proudly hang them {toss and hope they stick}on your tree!

{Then move them all higher during nap time so Wyatt can’t reach them}
