All About Character Hoods
If you’re new to the Etsy shop, let me introduce you to the Character Hood. It all started back in 2016 when we needed a little confidence boost:
My son Cash used to be a shy little dude when he was 3 years old. He’s outgoing in small groups and of course at home, but when it comes time to socializing in a big group he needs some time to warm up. The idea of the Character Hoods first came to me because of a group class we went to in our home town. He had a hard time going into our library dance class and participating because of all the people. Like many toddlers, he got anxious.
He told me it is “scary” sometimes. Or he’s, “shy right now,” and he’d hide behind the door or cling to my legs. But, when I dressed him up as a “scary” or “confident” character, like a dragon or the bear, he marched right on into the dance class with confidence and isn’t wasn’t intimidated. He could be something else for a minute or two until he warmed up and exclaimed, “I’m Cash again! I’m not shy anymore!”
Like all moms, I’m just on a mission to make my son feel more comfortable, brave, and confident… Thanks to the many Characters we’ve created together, he also happens to look super-duper cute too! The hoods are perfect because I can use them all year long. Even in the summer he can toss it on over a t-shirt and take it off “when he’s Cash again.”
While in Character he feels happy, confident and powerful. We talked about a Fox being smart and clever, he liked that! He paraded around the library waving at patrons telling them, “I’m a SMART FOX!”
Since then we’ve added many Confident Characters to our little Shop. Most are based on the traits and strengths my boys need to “borrow” for a bit until they’re ready to face the big scary world on their own.
