How to throw a Super Hero Party under $50

Both of my boys love the Avengers. If you have met them, they were probably wearing a cape or a costume. It makes total Mom Sense, How to have a Super Hero Birthday Party for under $50. Name for Super Hero Food Theme{that’s a technical term} that I, a professional party planner for my own company would have two sons who always want the exact same party year after year… Super Hero Party! The infamous Super Hero Party will probably be on repeat for another few years. So it is up to me to shake up the theme every chance I get. One of my most popular/pinned parties is actually Cash’s 2nd Birthday Party which was a Super Hero Training Birthday. You can catch that over at Green-Eyed Girl Productions.

We’re well beyond “training” now and we’re full-fledged Super Hero Party Experts. I’m pretty sure Wyatt thinks he’s part Hulk. Another great thing about this party design is that it was all UNDER $50… now that really is super!

I’m especially proud of the timing for this one… For Cash’s birthday, I told everyone that he wanted all the different Marvel Characters as gifts. He had received a few for Christmas and was in love, naturally. The timing worked out so that I actually bought the action figures on everyone’s behalf and they just paid me back the $7 each. Or Grandma who bought a few more…  One of my most genius ideas ever was actually using the gifts as the decorations! #brilliant

I’ve been known to use what I have laying around my house as decorations before, as with Cash’s Pirate Party when I just put a ton of his toys up on the display table #forfree

The Avengers Theme

For this party, the whole goal was to keep it affordable. My mission was to stay under $50 while utilizing as many things as I could to have a double purpose. Having the Avengers toys as the main decoration was a huge money saver. Plus, it was so fun to see Cash see it for the first time and recognize all the characters. His little mind nearly blew when we told him they were all his to keep.

1- Decorate with the Gifts

Using the gifts as the main decoration is my biggest piece of advice for this party and keeping your “decorating” way under budget. There were a few key pieces though that I could live without for the theme to come together. Most of those I was able to make in my own Etsy Shop, The Vintage Event, {and I’ll be linking you through to each piece} but the biggest expense for the whole party was this awesome Super Hero Party Backdrop I bought on Amazon for $16. I know! Really broke the bank on that one! 😉 I cut a Cash Man {because he wanted it to be like Iron Man} Banner. We used metallic cupcake papers and I drew these awesome BOOM, POP {on the popcorn} ZAP Sound Effect Plaques to add some more oomph.

2- Upcycle when you can

My next step in build my Super Hero Party display was giving all of The Avengers a place to stand. I found some silver wrapping paper and wrapped up a few tall rectangular boxes. {which I have plenty of} #amazonprimemom

Using a fine tip sharpie I drew some brick lines around them and on the corners to make them look like buildings in the city. I already had some silver gift wrap laying around my house which I was happy to use up, so it was free for me. But if you don’t have it you can grab some on Amazon for $16 {not counted in my budget, so it will add to yours} You could also check The Dollar Tree for plain gift wrap.

I brought to the party more things from home that I knew we already had, such as his Avengers placemat which he uses every day. I borrowed the wooden 4 from my niece’s party a few weeks earlier.

Use Simple Details to add your Theme

Now let’s get to the fun party! I got to design some new pieces in my Etsy SHop for this party. I knew I wanted to name all the food {#idothat} for my theme so I needed to print plaques. This might be my favorite party of all parties I plan… naming the food. Another HUGE plus to this strategy is that you’re buying it anyway! So it has a double purpose in your budget. Your party needs food, and you need decorations {just like you need gifts} so you may as well utilize them on the table.

I named the food at this party:

  • Blue Punch | Super Syrum {$3.99 + water}
  • Red Vines | TNT Sticks {$2.99}
  • Ring Pops | Power Rings {$1 at Dollar Tree}
  • Chip Bags | Decoys & Jet Packs {$5.99 Variety Pack}
  • Chex Mix | Rubble {$2 at Dollar Tree- place it by Hulk!}
  • Popcorn | Diversions {$2.99 Air Popped Bag}
  • Cupcakes | Sound Effect Cupcake Toppers so not really their own name, but still cute!

Party Decorations Total = $44.95

For this party, I went with the grocery store bakery and got 2 dozen for $10! Score. That rounds my snack food budget out to $28.96 which is pretty awesome seeing as we get to eat all of these decorations instead of just toss them.  That means that for this whole party so far {because we’re not including the main food, which grandparents hosted a BBQ} to an affordable $44.95. That gave me some room to splurge on some Dollar Tree Spider-Man Straws!

  1. YES!!!! We shall see what the little thing growing inside of me will wind up liking and will want as a theme for one of it’s birthday parties… Or all (ha!) But honestly, I feel like – THE DOLLAR STORE would be an a – ok place to go to to buy a lot of things (if it has the specific theme in mind) because I mean, everything just kind of get ripped up anyways with kids around, right? lol

    1. Absolutely! I basically live at the Dollar Tree! We just did Cash’s 5th birthday, a Magic School Bus/Science party, and I got so much from Dollar Tree! Including some Liz looking lizard toys!
