It’s time to Blast Off with a 5th Birthday inspired by Star Wars! No Star Wars Birthday is complete without a Pool Noodle Lightsaber Fight against the Stormtroopers. To start the Party Games we put our party guest Padawan’s through Lightsaber Training.
Start Wars Party Games
The main “Mission” for this whole party revolved around rescuing General Joy {a small lighter torch to be used for the cake candle lighting} from Carbonite that Darth Vader put him in. If you’ve been around long enough you know I’ve pulled this game before at Cash’s Safari Party, where the final “level” of game-play involves saving the torch to light the candles, to finally eat the cake and cupcakes. I’ve found kids are highly motivated to play these games if by “winning” and saving the torch character they get to eat the cake. #MomWinning
Back to the Game…
Freeing Carbonite Encased General Joy
I wrapped my little lighter torch in cellophane the spray painted it a shiny grey to make it look like the classic carbonite from the Star Wars Movies. Then I framed it and named it. Ta-Da! Mission set. Now the kids were told what they needed to do to achieve their mission. It first included a few minutes of completely chaotic Lightsaber Training with the pool noodles. Really, we just did this as a waiting plan for all the kids to get there and start the party together.

Stormtrooper Battle
After copious lightsaber training, the Padawans were read their mission and escorted to the garage. This is where we had set up the Storm Troopers and Rocket Blaster Station. You’ll notice that the Storm Troopers are balloons. Inside each balloon was a piece of paper that had been cut into puzzle pieces. The kids had to use their lightsaber pool noodles to pop the balloons {one at a time} and retrieve the paper piece inside. Popping all Trooper Balloons would give them all the pieces of paper that when assembled back into proper order would reveal how to free General Joy.

Rocket Blaster Backpacks
There is one more big piece to the Star Wars Party Games ensemble. After Lightsaber Training, but before the Stormtrooper Battle, kids had to make their own Rocket Blaster Backpack so they could “Fly through space” and fight the Empire. Read all about How to Make a Rocket Blaster Backpack HERE.
