When we arrived at Raufarhólshellir, you could really feel the excitement in the air. Walking into the Lava Tunnel is like entering a whole new world—where the ground whispers tales of old eruptions and flowing lava. Her enthusiasm was catchy, and she had a real talent for turning geology facts into cool stories that even our young adventurers enjoyed.

The Skylights, where parts had caved in, were “super dangerous,” so of course, my rebellious kids wanted to lie under them and pretend they were in peril for dramatic effect. That is, until she told us they don’t actually fall for a few decades.
