There’s something about embarking on a mission with kids that makes everything feel like an epic quest. Our goal? To capture all those must-have tourist pictures of Reykjavik while keeping it fun and engaging for the boys. So, buckle up, fellow parents, as we dive into this sweet and sticky adventure.

1. Rainbow Street

Our first stop on the Reykjavik walking tour was Rainbow Street—an iconic path that’s as bright as my boys’ grins. Here’s a funny story for you. After parking, we wandered through the maze-like streets, super excited to find this famous Rainbow Road that the Internet raved about. We stumbled upon a side street with a faded rainbow, and I was sure we’d found the spot. So, like any determined tourist mom, I had the boys line up for some “enthusiastic” photos. You can imagine my relief when, a few blocks later, we found the real Rainbow Street, bursting with color and energy. That’s when we got some genuinely excited pictures!

2. Skólavörðustígur

Next, we wandered over to Skólavörðustígur, where every street seemed to tell its own story. From hopscotch patterns that made my boys leap with joy to a giant wolf eel that left them in awe, it was like stepping into a vibrant, interactive storybook. This street is a kaleidoscope of creativity that’s perfect for sparking little imaginations.

3. Icemart

We wanted to check out every shop, but we lost track of time when Wyatt saw a shop cat chilling on the display blankets. We headed in, and before long, Wyatt had a new furry buddy. That shop cat was the best part of their day—maybe even better than Rainbow Street!

4. Skolavorduholt Church

Next up on our trip was the stunning Skolavorduholt Church. The boys were really impressed by its huge structure, so we paused to admire the detailed architecture. This place, with its calm vibe, gave us a nice, peaceful break during our busy tour.

5. Epic Food Tour (More on That Later!)

6. Viking Mural

Our last stop before leaving the center of Reykjavik was the Viking mural. It felt like history was coming to life right in front of us. The downtown area is filled with art everywhere you look, from painted streets to huge murals, and I just had to grab a few more photos for the family album.

7. Lots of Food Stops & Shopping

Every corner seemed to have another awesome surprise waiting for us. From cute little cafes to one-of-a-kind Icelandic shops, we treated ourselves to sweet snacks and fun souvenirs. The kids, naturally, loved the ice cream, and I picked up the perfect Icelandic chocolate and jams to take back home.

3:00 PM: Perlan

As we finished our stroll around Reykjavik, we were filled with memories and photos. Perlan, offering amazing views of the city and beyond, was the perfect way to wrap up our day. We were excited to check out the Ice Tunnel and Rotating Dome Restaurant next!
