Stop 1: Kerid Crater – A Colorful Start to the Day

Time: 10:30 AM (30 minutes)

To start off the morning, we’re heading to Kerid Crater. This volcanic crater lake looks like nature’s own bowl of Skittles with its bright reds, greens, and blues—perfect for a family photo! My boys, My Sweet & Sticky, were blown away by the colors. And, honestly, they loved yelling into the crater to hear their echoes come back. Just a heads-up: keep a tight grip on your hats because the wind loves to take them for a spin!

Stop 2: Geysir Walking Tour – Watch the Earth Dance

Time: 11:35 AM (45 minutes), FREE

Our next stop is the Geysir Walking Tour, and it’s totally free, which is always music to a mom’s ears. You’ll find yourself in a steamy wonderland of geothermal activity. The kids will love watching the Strokkur geyser erupt every few minutes, shooting water up to 70 meters high. It’s like nature’s own firework show! Just a hop away, you’ll find Geysir, the original hot spring that gave all others their name. And don’t miss Haukadalur valley, where ancient geothermal geysers, hot springs, and bubbling mud pots put on a show that rivals any theme park.

STOP 5: Sundhöll Selfoss (Public Swimming Pool)

Today, we decided to hit up the pool. We just had enough energy to make it happen. The water was nice and warm, and it wasn’t too busy for a Tuesday night. Heads up though: as is the case with many facilities, clothing is optional here, so prepare your kids to be mature about it.

The boys had a blast going down this huge slide over and over since there was no line. Then, we headed back to the cabin for an early night, with more trampoline fun and Skyr.
